It ended with cozy warm bodies in big comfy chairs before hugs goodnight in the cool Venice air. Creme brulee, thick and sweet, two spoons lifted to two mouths. Plates of homemade saag paneer, daal, basmati rice. Hot, fresh naan, dipped in a dollop of raita. White wine, glass after glass, and water crackers holding smoked tomatoes with garlic, smoked figs, the smoker responsible for their delicious flavors sitting idly while we chatted, ate, and watched the makers of our meal with a dreamy eye.
