Mmmmm...it was soooo nice to come home to real food, real cooking, after ten long days eating cafe food, frozen Trader Joes morsels, and random restaurant foods...my gut really needed a break from all that. It's beautiful to be in the kitchen next to my sweetheart as he whisks, fries, warms and stirs.
I'm lurching through a couple of essays I'm composing, trying to see all the scattered parts and how I will bring them into a whole (or hole), and the overcast skies have recently given way to some shy sun and I find myself, still, inside.
Though I did get out today. I took a walk to the Friday market in Mid-Wilshire, and though I did not see anything organic to choose from, a basket of jalapenos, a head of romaine, four juicy nectarines and two heads of garlic were all mine for five dollars. This alone made the day worthwhile.
Also worthwhile are the two rib-eye steaks silently marinating in lime juice, sugar, tamari, oil, and red pepper flakes. I'm hoping to woo my fiance this evening by prepping the steaks for a rambunctious salad. I've fed myself more kitcheri than I care to talk about today, mostly for the sake of my suddenly picky stomach. I look forward to the first bites into the tender meat and crisp romaine leaves tonight...
